PRE-PROGRAMME – Discover Luxembourg's UNESCO Treasures
Start your Olympiad week with a journey through Luxembourg’s breathtaking natural and cultural landscapes. The day is dedicated to UNESCO – whether you hike through the fairy-tale rock formations of the Mëllerdall, admire the moving photo exhibition “The Family of Man” in Clervaux, or stroll through the historic old town of Luxembourg City. This day uniquely blends nature, culture and international heritage.

Mëllerdall - Heringermillen

Hike through the stunning “Little Luxembourgish Switzerland” with spectacular rock formations and deep valleys. Starting point: Heringermillen. Joint bus transfer or individual arrival possible.

Discover Vianden Castle

A majestic journey into Luxembourg’s past

One of Europe’s most magnificent medieval fortresses. Perched high above the Our Valley, the castle invites you to step back in time and admire stunning views and captivating architecture. Whether with a guide or at your own pace, this cultural highlight is not to be missed.

Today we head to southern Luxembourg – the dynamic Minett region. Once shaped by heavy industry, it now flourishes as a unique biosphere landscape. Hike through the UNESCO-designated area around Fond-de-Gras and experience nature’s remarkable comeback. Alternatively, you can once again explore Luxembourg City – by bike or on foot via the permanent Wenzel and Vauban trails.

Welcome to the Opening Ceremony!
The official start of the IVV Olympiad is here! After the traditional President’s Walk, a colourful highlight awaits you: the grand flag parade through Luxembourg City with participants from all over the world. The afternoon culminates in a festive opening ceremony at Place d’Armes – with music, speeches and heartfelt moments. Let yourself be inspired by the international spirit of the IVV Olympiad – and celebrate with us at the Opening Party!

IVV Presidents’ walk 5, 10 & 20 km

• Departure between 08:00 and 11:00

• 3:00 PM – Flag parade on the Kirchberg

Thursday is all about getting everyone moving – young and old alike. Whether you choose the classic IVV walking routes or join the special Junior Olympiad with challenges on water, land and bike – today is all about team spirit! In the evening, the Business Challenge invites companies and groups to an energetic event with a festive dinner party. Being active together, celebrating together – that’s what the IVV Olympiad spirit in Luxembourg is all about!

The grand highlight
The athletic climax of the Olympiad awaits you: the 42 km marathon walk – a true test of endurance and determination. Shorter walking and cycling routes are also available. Culinary enthusiasts can enjoy the regional market “Luxembourg in all its Flavours”, while the curious can experience Olympic spirit up close at “Meet the Athletes”. The day concludes with the official closing ceremony – and an unforgettable Closing Party at the Coque.
