Minett region - Biosphere reserve of the UNESCO

Discover parts of Luxembourg’s southern Minett region, which has held the status of a biosphere reserve of the UNESCO since October 2020. Covering approximately 8 kilometres, this varied and dynamic route takes you through the Land of the Red Rocks, between Rodange, Lamadelaine and Fond-de-Gras, where you will encounter traces of different historical periods.

At the Minett Park Fond-de-Gras, you will discover the historic railway station, where the nostalgic locomotives of the Train 1900 operate on weekends and public holidays. The site also features an open-air museum with exhibits dating from the period of iron ore mining, as well as the entrance to a former mine gallery. The traditional “Bei der Giedel” café, whose origins date back to 1881, is an inviting place to take a break.

The route then continues across the Titelberg, an important settlement and religious site from the Celtic period. Clearly visible remains from this era can still be seen at three locations. The combination of industrial heritage, nature and archaeology makes this route a unique experience.

The route includes several short but noticeable climbs, which are typical of the Minett landscape. Sturdy footwear is recommended, particularly in wet weather.

During Olympic Week, the route offers a daily opportunity to embark on a journey through nature and history. On Tuesday, 15 June 2027, an additional refreshment point will be available along the route.

Participants may travel independently to the starting point at any time. A shared Olympic bus will also depart from the Coque at 2:00 p.m. and travel to the “Bei der Éil” starting point in Rodange (prior registration required).
